Questions we get a lot

What happens if a chimney crown is cracked?

Water gets in. The crown is the concrete slab at the top that sheds rain away from the flue and the brick, and once it cracks the water runs straight down inside the stack — rusting the damper, saturating the mortar, and freezing in the joints all winter.

What is the lifespan of a chimney?

The masonry can last 80 to 100 years with maintenance. The parts that fail earlier are the crown, the mortar joints, and the clay liner — roughly 20 to 30 years each. Most of the older brick chimneys around Xenia are past due on at least one of the three.

Do you cover the rural addresses outside Xenia?

Yes, Xenia and the surrounding Greene County countryside. Farm and rural properties often have chimneys nobody has looked at in decades, which is usually where we find the most.

The mortar joints on my brick chimney are washed out. What now?

An inspection tells us whether the brick behind them is still sound. If it is, repointing is the fix and the cost tracks height and access. If the brick has failed too, we will say so rather than repoint a stack that needs rebuilding. The free inspection is what tells the two apart, and your written price comes with it.
