Will repointing damage the original mortar on my Oakwood home?
It can, if it is done wrong. Homes from the 1910s-1930s were laid up with soft lime mortar, and packing modern Portland-heavy mortar against soft historic brick makes the brick spall instead of the mortar. We match the mortar to what is already there.
Can a 1920s chimney take a stainless liner?
Almost always. A flexible stainless liner is sized to your appliance and fed down the existing flue, so the original masonry stays intact. It is usually the least invasive way to bring a century-old chimney up to code.
Do you match historic brick on repairs?
We do. Salvaged or color-matched brick and a mortar mix tinted to the original, so a repair on an Oakwood chimney does not announce itself from the street.
What does relining an older chimney cost?
