Questions we get a lot

The mortar on my Huber Heights chimney is crumbling. Repoint or rebuild?

It depends on depth. If the erosion is in the outer half-inch of the joints and the brick is sound, repointing handles it. If the brick faces are flaking off or the stack leans, repointing a failing structure is money spent twice, and we will say so.

How much does chimney tuckpointing cost?

Height, access, and how much of the stack actually needs grinding out. Huber Heights chimneys are usually straightforward two-story brick, but the extent varies house to house even on the same street. The free inspection is where we measure it, and the written number comes with it — before any grinding starts.

How long does repointing last?

Twenty to thirty years when the mortar is matched to the brick and the crown above it is sound. If water keeps coming in from a cracked crown, fresh joints will fail again in a few winters — which is why we look at the whole stack, not just the joints.

Why do so many chimneys in this area need the same repair?

Huber Heights was built out fast and mostly in brick, so thousands of chimneys are the same age and construction. They reach the end of their mortar life at roughly the same time, and Ohio freeze-thaw sets the pace.
